Over the moon

2a Over the moon1Villiersdorp-based Betko Fresh Produce, one of the Western Cape’s leading apple and pear pack houses and a FarSoft client since 2009, is absolutely ecstatic about the recent addition of the ViTrax bin tracking and QC solutions. Jeanne-Mari Burger, Betko’s quality assurance manager, said, “Having worked with the ViTrax system for seven years prior to joining Betko, I felt it was imperative to implement the bin tracking module when we installed the Greefa pre-sorter.”

In January this year, FarSoft implemented the bin tracking module, followed by the QC solution. Burger explained that this had made it possible to provide growers with live feedback. “Furthermore, packing times have been cut, plus we can provide exactly what the client wants in terms of quality and quantity.”

But it hasn’t stopped there. Already 80 percent completed, FarSoft has integrated the Greefa pre-sorter’s data into the ViTrax bin tracking module. Burger indicated that only a few more tweaks were necessary. “Then we’re rolling and I must say, we’re pleased with the way everything has turned out.”

Located on the De Hoop farm in the scenic Vyeboom Valley at Villiersdorp, Betko Fresh Produce is a pome producer of note. Established in 1991, three farms produce the apples and pears, which are then packed in the state-of-the-art pack house. It’s said that the sizer at Betko is one of the most capacity-efficient in the country.
